12 Simple Rules for Life
Created with Midjourney
The biggest unlocks in life often come from the simplest solutions.
One such solution is inversion. The easiest way to solve a problem is to invert it.
As Charlie Munger says:
“All I want to know is where I'm going to die, so I'll never go there.”
Following this framework, here are twelve simple rules for life that use inversion.
Minimise consumption; Maximise creation.
Minimise distraction; Maximise focus.
Minimise talking; Maximise listening.
Minimise comfort; Maximise growth.
Minimise waiting; Maximise action.
Minimise perfection; Maximise progress.
Minimise ego; Maximise humility.
Minimise regret; Maximise learning.
Minimise excess; Maximise Moderation.
Minimise judgement; Maximise empathy.
Minimise excuses; Maximise accountability.
Minimise complexity; Maximise simplicity.
This principle of inversion might be the most beautifully simple problem-solving tool we have at our disposal.
Let’s use it.

Microsoft has agreed to purchase all the power from a Three Mile Island nuclear plant for 20 years, securing zero-emissions electricity to power its AI ventures. The plant shut down in 2019 and will reopen by 2028 for roughly ~$1.6 billion. Once operational, the facility will generate 835MW of power, enough to supply 800,000 homes. This deal is unprecedented since no U.S. nuclear powerr plant has ever resumed operations after being decommissioned, and never before has a single customer claimed all of a nuclear power plant's output.
Luca’s take: Mark Zuckerberg stated earlier this year that the bottleneck to AI progress won’t be access to compute but to energy. It seems Satya shares Zuck’s insight. This deal shows how crazy the AI arms race is becoming, highlighting Big Tech’s willingness to go to extreme lengths to secure the resources it needs to create the next wave of disruptive AI applications. One wonders where startups fit into the AI landscape, if the hyperscalers are willing and able to buy up entire nuclear plants to get the job done.
