Unsurprisingly it might be simpler than you think and much more...

Hey everyone,

IDEAS
How to make $1M

Created with Midjourney

The problem most entrepreneurs have in business is that they usually try to do too many things, stretching their resources too thin and scattering their efforts.

The solution?

  • Focus on 1 product with the most traction,

  • Through the 1 channel with the highest conversion rate,

  • Using your 1 most effective conversion tool (free trials or email),

  • In the 1 market where your product resonates with your audience the most,

  • For 1 year.

This is the strategy to make $1 million in revenue that most people don’t get.

You might be thinking: “That’s great but how do I decide which product, channel, market, and conversion tool to use?“

The answer lies in a caveat I’d add to the framework:

You’ll need to experiment with hundreds (if not thousands) of products, channels, markets and conversion tools to figure out which one to focus on!

Inference > Training

Source: Bay Area Times

Spending on AI inference (the AI model’s output after asking ChatGPT a question) is forecast to increase by over 70% to $208.2B in the next year.

As you can see in the chart, that trend is only expected to continue post-2026.

The rise of “reasoning” models (like OpenAI’s o1 or DeepSeek-R1) has pushed this explosion in inference spending.

This is because reasoning models generate significantly more tokens per query than standard models.

The additional tokens are generated during test-time compute—the chain-of-thought process that occurs while the model ‘thinks’ through the problem it’s trying to solve.

This ‘thinking’ time happens before the model gives its final answer to the user.

Increased inference spending is evidence of an opportunity here. Companies like Cerebras, Groq, and even Big Tech incumbents like Meta are taking on NVIDIA in this domain by building their own custom inference chips.

The inference upstarts are using a straightforward framework that founders can use when figuring out what to build.

Find products in competitive markets (NVIDIA’s GPU) and build it better or cheaper (Groq’s LPU).

Essentially, NVIDIA’s margin is their opportunity.

TOOLS
Unicorn Platform

Recently, I’ve been tinkering with directory app ideas as an experiment to reach potential users within my target market (investments/wealth management).

Directories are digital platforms that provide curated listings of information (usually businesses, services, jobs or properties) for ease of consumption on the internet.

Some of the most popular apps on Earth are directories.

Think of Craigslit, Yelp and Airbnb.

They’re popping right now given the sheer magnitude of content on the internet. The fact is that people trust well-curated directories.

Building directory apps is relatively straightforward (all your website needs is a front-end with a list pattern and a database to store listings), so most AI-to-code and no-code tools are more than capable.

You could even code one up from scratch if your heart desires.

However, the simplest and most effective tool I’ve come across for building directories is Unicorn Platform.

With over 10 directory templates, it lets you go from idea to directory in +-30 minutes.

With directories, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel—it’s more important to get the app to market as quick as possible to validate the idea and see if there is monetization potential.

Unicorn Platform gives you the tools to build and iterate at lightspeed.

Give it a whirl for free here.

If you are interested in building your own directory using Unicorn Platform, I’d highly recommend pairing it with this comprehensive tutorial from Greg Isenberg’s podcast, The Startup Ideas Podcast.

The 1-hour tutorial has the creator of Unicorn Platform, John Rush, take you through an end-to-end directory build from ideation to monetization.

For other directory resources on YouTube, simply type ‘Greg Isenberg Directory’ into YouTube search.

He has an entire library of content on building and monetizing directories.

THOUGHTS
Quote I’m Pondering

The late Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett’s lifelong business partner, on focus:

“I think a great strategy, for the great mass of humanity, is to specialize. Nobody wants to go to a doctor who’s half-proctologist and half-dentist.”
