IDEAS
The Simple Way To Build An App

Created with Midjourney

A lot goes into building a web app.

Yes, it’s become 100x easier with No-Code and AI tools.

But there’s still a lot to keep track of—the front end, back end, data, logic, etc.- not to mention making it look nice.

I use what I’m coining, the “Power of One” principle, to combat the anxiety of all the moving parts.

As its namesake suggests, it revolves around the number, one. Finding one thing that will add value to the user’s experience:

  • One value proposition

  • One workflow

  • One feature

And building that one thing. That’s all it takes.

Focussing the mind on one crucial thing drowns out the noise.

It’s a principle about uncomplicating the process. Uncluttering the interface.

That’s the simple way to build an app. And it can be applied to anything you do.

I've been fascinated lately by Jensen Huang's leadership approach at Nvidia, particularly how he's turned conventional wisdom on its head.

Despite managing 60 direct reports, he completely avoids one-on-one meetings.

Instead, he's created a system of real-time collaboration and transparent communication that's transformed Nvidia into a trillion-dollar company.

What really strikes me is how he's managed to combine ruthless efficiency with genuine accessibility—he's always there when needed, but has eliminated the usual corporate bottlenecks that slow companies down.

There are powerful lessons for those studying Jensen's playbook. Some of my favourites:

  • Reimagine "best practices" — what we’re told works in other companies might not work for yours.

  • Don’t let transparency be a buzzword thrown around the boardroom. Jensen openly shares his failures, turning them into learning opportunities for everyone, not just his employees.

  • Unwavering vision combined with decisive action is how to go from zero to one. Without this, he couldn’t have taken GPUs from powering the niche gaming industry to the next wave of technological advancement.

When studying Jensen Huang, it seems that true leadership isn't about following a template. It's about creating systems that amplify your company’s strengths and relentlessly executing day in and day out.

TOOLS
Replit

You know that overwhelming feeling when you want to start coding but get stuck before you even begin? That was me.

Every time I tried to learn, I got lost in a maze of setup requirements, different tools, and confusing workflows.

Using Replit has flipped that on its head. It consolidates setting up your coding environment and even choosing a language in the browser, removing all the friction.

It’s sort of like if Google Docs was used for coding, but way cooler.

If you’re brave enough to pay $15 a month, you can access Replit Agents which will code you an entire website, app, or video game from scratch with a simple prompt.

If it doesn’t work the first time, tell the agent in natural language, and it’ll debug its code.

When it comes to the future of programming, Replit is probably on to something.

When preparing, imagine failure.

When acting, imagine success.”
