Internal emails from OpenAI's early days reveal that co-founders Ilya Sutskever and Greg Brockman harboured serious concerns about Elon Musk potentially gaining absolute control over AGI, fearing the creation of an ‘AGI dictatorship.’

Despite Musk's claims that he doesn't want control of the AGI, tensions over leadership and control ultimately contributed to his departure from OpenAI.

Luca’s take: It’s incredibly important that we constantly challenge our preconceived notions. This is the key insight for me in this story. I’m a self-proclaimed member of the ‘Don’t Bet Against Elon’ club—but what is the dark side of this? Yes, everything Elon’s taken control of in the past has turned to gold. But how can we be so certain this will continue into the future? Especially when it comes to something as existential to humanity as AGI.
